As promised today’s post is dedicated to restless leg syndrome. The hallmark symptom of this condition is the overwhelming urge to move your legs at night especially while in bed. It is usually relieved by getting out of bed and walking. This is obviously counterproductive to sleep.
There are special considerations that need to be taken into account when dealing with this condition. Do you have an undiagnosed low back condition (nerve supply to legs originate in brain but run through spine where entrapment may occur).
On the systemic side your iron levels need to be assessed (TIBC,IRON SAT.,FERRITIN….). Also of concern is whether there is a functional dopamine deficiency ( may need help with dopamine precursors) leading to unwanted muscle contractions.
There are several reasons why the above conditions would cause restless legs so if you have it simply taking the medication may not target whats causing yours. You need comprehensive evaluation. The cause is not always where everyone is looking.
